Harbin Auto City defines a new commercial car culture that includes automobile consumerism and education, test drive course, auto part retail and tourism. To create an iconic car culture destination, the 4S store area will become the center for car sales and shopping. Combining contemporary design with the renovated existing buildings from the paint factory reflects the industrial development of modern China. Enhancing the car experience, a test drive route is designed throughout the Auto City to enhance different driving situations.
Located in a harsh winter climate, it is important to design a sustainable environment where one live, consume and work comfortably. The master plan is zoned into three major zones – commercial mixed-use, 4S auto shops, and residential. The heart of the project is a natural green park that unifies the different zones and creates a public space where all can share.
The master plan is strategically designed to reduce reliance on natural resources – Orientation to block winter winds and maximize sun exposure, buildings are located close to each other to share resources, commercial areas that are covered to allow natural sunlight but protect from the winter cold.
