"To create an extension of the Cultural Axis while creating a permeable and integrated Public Space for area residents."
Baoan Culture and Art Center is situated at the heart of Baoan district, an extension of the public cultural buildings along the central green axis. The grandeur of the building celebrates its identity as the new cultural landmark of Baoan. The ground is lifted up to introduce a public sunken courtyard in the front and the sports field for Coastal Primary School at the back.
The greenery along the central axis of Baoan cracks into the massive building to allow light and air while differentiating the three museums. The Art Gallery is squeezed betwen the two formal Contemporary Gallery and Traditional Museum. Cracks of greenery functions as filter spaces between the exhibition areas, which provide visitors indoor/outdoor rhythm inside the museum space.
